We are honored to be a co-promoter of the Gospel Music Expo (GME). We, along with our partners, New Ground, sponsor this annual event, and it has proven to be a most successful project. Gospel Music Expo is the brainchild of local gospel music DJ and our friend, Jon Eric. It was (and still is) his vision to take Gospel Music to people who might not otherwise be subjected to it. Thus, it was taken to a very public place; and what better place than a shopping Mall. We are literally taking the Gospel to the masses. We have seen souls saved right there in the Mall.
Jon teamed up with THE MALL AT BARNES CROSSING in Tupelo, MS to host this event annually. It involves artists from virtually every facet of Gospel Music including traditional Southern Gospel, Contemporary/Praise and Worship, Bluegrass gospel, Black Gospel, and Country Gospel, just to name a few. The artists actually pay a fee in order to present their ministry to the general public. This fee is used to defray the costs of the event. We have had artists from FL, AL, GA, AR, TN, OH, PA, KY and IN as well as local MS artists.
The event takes place on Friday nite from 6:00 pm to mall closing; then resumes again on Saturday morning at 9:30 am and goes to Mall closing. Artists perform for 15 to 20 minutes each, and annually some 50 artists participate. It has become so popular that many local churches send representatives to hear groups for the purpose of booking them in their church functions. We have seen the Food Court (where the event is staged) literally packed out, and the Mall informs us that they see a marked increase in traffic during the weekend.
A very vital part of this event is our Emcee, Dr Buck Morton. Dr Buck, prior to retirement, was Emcee for the National Quartet Convention for 30+ years, dating all the way back to when it was held in Memphis, TN and owned by the late Dr James Blackwood and J.D. Sumner. He is known by virtually every artist and minstry today. His vast experience as an Emcee has proven invaluable, and he is also a member of the GME advisory board. Dr Buck is currently the Pastor of First Baptist Church in Portageville, MO. Thank you, Dr Buck, for all you do to facilitate GME.
In the Photo Pages below are some photos taken of the event. Please take time to look at these and we think you will get the idea of what a great program it is. If you have a ministry, group, or church group that would be interested in being a part of GME, please sign in the section below, and we will provide you information as to how you can become a part of this great event.
We are currently in negotiations to take GME to other cities and venues. Please continue to pray for us as we undertake this endeavor. We feel we are in a small way following the directive that was given in the Great Commission to go and tell others about Jesus.
